The pony cars in the late 60's were only a few of
the many "muscle cars" that exploded onto the roads in that era.
Corvettes, GTO's and even full size sedans were getting stuffed with bigger and
bigger engines, some with over 400 horsepower! This is part of the reason
why the pony cars were restyled and made a little bigger every couple of years, to accommodate
those big block engines which eventually grew to over 400 cubic
inches! Hotter versions of each car were added such as the Shelby
Mustang, Camaro Z28 and Firebird Trans Am. Who had the most powerful
engine? Chevy's 1969 Camaro and Chrysler's 1971
Barracuda/Challenger were tied at 425 horsepower! |

Did you ever notice how pony cars
look fast even when they're not moving?
